The Lost Lectures

How to build a toaster from scratch.

In his entertaining talk Thomas shares incredible insights about production, design, collaboration and shows how the simplest of modern appliances requires a civilisation to build.

Speaker Thomas Thwaites

Thomas Thwaites a designer (of a more speculative sort), interested in technology, science and futures research, as well as communicating complex subjects in engaging ways.  He graduated from the Royal College of Art Design Interactions MA in 2009, and has since undertaken a number of interesting projects, including building a toaster… from scratch.  His journey took him across the planet, mining for metal, deriving plastic from oil and a host of other mind-boggling endeavours which uncovered fascinating and surprising ideas around production, design and even civilisation.
