Imagine The Prodigy but with more trumpets, trombones, saxophones, sousaphones and marching percussion. Follow this with nuggets of funk, hip-hop and high-octane rock from the musical coalface and throw in a few chunks of Balkan brass, ska and contemporary jazz for good measure, and you’re starting to get the idea. The Hackney Colliery Band are a nine piece brass band who twist genres like no-one else. They’ve played everywhere, from opera houses to the Olympics and are totally stretching our conception of an ‘eclectic’ set list. Intrigued? you should be – they will be talking about their unique creation, but more importantly giving a show-stopping performance to close out the evening.
