The Lost Lectures

Desiree Akhavan

Iranian-American filmmaker Desiree Akhavan is a comedic powerhouse. In-between filming with Lena Dunham on the set of Girls, Desiree created her own show The Slope, which looked at ‘two superficial homophobic lesbians who are in love’. Her debut film, Appropriate Behaviour touched on similar themes and marked her as one of the most exciting new voices in indie cinema. While applying herself to a variety of formats and platforms, Desiree’s work often returns to topics of marginalized sexualities, particularly bisexuality, cutting through mystifications and getting right to the funny stuff.

In a last minute twist of fate (and on the day of announcements), Desiree had to pull out due to an appearance at Cannes Film Festival – fear not Lostlings we’re in talks with a suitably kick-ass replacement!
