Like many others, Andrew felt that the Miss World competition was missing something. Namely: latex, drag queens, men dressed as telephone boxes, a smattering of fluorescent wigs and a license to misbehave (among other things). 42 years ago he set about establishing the Alternative Miss World competition to redress this deficit. It started as an excuse to party; it ballooned into one of the most raucous, high-vis, and frankly unpredictable spectacles on the London events calendar (apart from Lost;). Co-hosted by Grayson Perry, last year it was rehoused at the historic Globe theatre; a transfer that would’ve surely made Shakespeare proud. Andrew will be joining us talk about the history of this illustrious institution, and with some ‘beauties’ in tow, will be getting the party started.
