The Lost Lectures

Story of the Angry Man

“I wanted to create a provocative piece of political theatre, but I hadn’t wanted to get my nose broken”. Nir tells of an experience with The Angry man, a rather scary stranger who accosted him during an early performance at Edinburgh. Taking this as a starting point, he explores complicated, at times violent, relationship between artist and audience. Drawing on theatrics, dance and a variety of personas, he makes a powerful vindication for the arts.

Speaker Nir Paldi

Nir is probably the first artist to explore the Israel- Palestine conflict through the medium of drag and Caberet. Garbed in a gold lamme dress, he’s toured his experimental show nationally to critical acclaim. Described as a ‘theatrical hand grenade’, his show Ballad of the Burning Star, is a fiercely emotional attempt to understand the complexity of the occupation and its psychological impact on Israeli and Palestinian people. He’ll be talking about his first-hand experience of the topic and performing excerpts from the show on the night.
