The Lost Lectures

Dronestagram

James shares his work on surveillance and aerial art including his project Dronestagram which documents sites of drone attacks using Google Earth. He also shares his sketches of drone outlines that have appeared on the streets of London, Iran and Washington DC, arguing that the invisibility such technologies confer upon politics, world events and our everyday interactions alienate us from our rights.

Speaker James Bridle

Instagram usually isn’t the first port of call for political activism, but James is set to change all that. He is the creator of Dronestagram, a website that shows satellite images of areas subjected to drone attacks. His aim is to bridge a meaningful, moral connection to these foreign landscapes and to create a sense of accountability. The cumulative result is more than just an atlas of beguiling yet sinister beauty but a social tool that is putting real pressure on Government for greater transparency.
