The Lost Lectures

Warsan Shire

Warsan is a Kenyan-born Somali Poet recently named London’s young poet Laureate. She began writing as a way to connect with her Somali heritage gaining media attention when her poem “For Women Who Are Difficult to Love” went viral. Her writing balances moments of heartbreaking intimacy with a unique rawness of language ‘To write poetry, like sincere poetry, is like performing heart surgery on yourself without anesthesia…in public’. Fearless, vulnerable and politically engaged, Warsan joins us to talk about the inspiration behind her writing and share her poems with us.
